Academic Advising

Academic advising is available free of charge to all students. Whenever questions or concerns regarding the student's program or performance arise, the student should schedule an appointment with the Administrator. If in his or her judgment the student requires counseling or psychotherapy, the Administrator may refer the student to an off-campus clinician for mental health services at the student's expense.

Due Process Grievance and Appeal Procedures

The Oklahoma Healing Arts Institute has established a "due process" procedure for students to follow if they have an academic or non-academic problems with an instructor, administrator, or the school.

Grievances should be directed first to the person involved, such as the teacher, staff member, student or other individual(s). If after direct discussion the problem is not resolved, a Grievance Board may be convened. A Grievance Board has been established that enables students to pursue grievances against the administration or faculty.

The primary responsibilities of the Grievance Board are outlined below:

  • Hear the grievance.

  • Hear the instructor's or administrator's response, including charges against the student.

  • Review any actions taken either by the student, instructor, or administrator of  the school.

  • Gather relevant information by such means as are appropriate.

  • Prepare a recommendation for the President.

The Grievance Board will be setup if needed as outlined in the following procedure:

  • Step One: The student needs to consult with the instructor (if applicable) and try to solve the situation. If after speaking with the instructor the student feels he or she needs further assistance,

  • Step Two: The Grievance Board can be formed by contacting any staff member. (See list of staff Members, p. 4)

  • Step Three: If all else fails, the student can go to the President of The Oklahoma Healing Arts Institute with the issues, which must be submitted in writing. The President will respond in writing or schedule a meeting with all parties involved within two weeks.
